PhD Position: Economics of Offshore Wind Farms
Job Summary
Join the Environmental Economics and Natural Resources (ENR) Group at Wageningen University & Research as a PhD candidate to assess the economic impacts of offshore wind farms on commercial fisheries in the Dutch North Sea. This role involves exploring economic trade-offs in the transition to renewable energy, identifying winners and losers, and designing decision-support tools for marine policy.
Responsibilities
- Analyzing geospatial data on fisheries activities near offshore wind farms to evaluate distributional impacts across different fleet segments.
- Conducting fieldwork and surveys in collaboration with partners and stakeholders.
- Publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at national and international conferences.
- Participating in teaching and supervision activities within the BSc and MSc programs of the ENR Group.
- Contributing to a dynamic, inclusive, and collaborative research culture within the group.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A completed MSc degree in economics, environmental science, or a related field.
- A solid foundation in applied quantitative methods such as econometrics, spatial analysis, or data science.
- Genuine enthusiasm for the ocean and marine sustainability challenges.
- Strong motivation to advance environmental and natural resource economics.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude toward teamwork.
- Eagerness to engage in teaching and supervision at BSc and MSc levels.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English; proficiency in Dutch is an asset.

The position is fully funded with a tailored course program. The gross salary starts at €3,059 per month in the first year and rises to €3,881 in the fourth year, based on a 38-hour workweek. A temporary contract of 18 months will be extended upon satisfactory performance.
