Physician - Internal Medicine - Hematology (Open Rank/Track Faculty)
The Division of Hematology at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital (OSUCCC-James) is actively recruiting faculty physicians with a clinical interest in both malignant and classical hematology. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.
Position Overview
Physicians within the Division of Hematology provide direct and indirect patient care services in inpatient and/or ambulatory settings in the James Cancer Hospital. They will conduct ambulatory clinics where they will perform physical examinations to assess medical needs, perform relevant hematology procedures, and order diagnostic testing and other ancillary services. The physician will prescribe and implement treatment plans, while educating patients and their families. Physicians may participate in quality assessment and improvement activities.
A physician in hematology will serve as a preceptor and provide bedside training of residents, fellows, medical students, undergraduate and graduate students, nursing staff, and other allied health medical professionals in the specialty of hematology.
Department/Division Overview
The Division of Hematology consists of 71 physicians, physician scientists, and research faculty and has a strong history of career development in laboratory, translational, and clinical research. Our faculty are supported through structured mentorship with a focus on personal career advancement. Clinical researchers develop a broad portfolio of investigator initiated and industry supported trials.
The OSUCCC-James is one of only 56 NCI-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the nation, a designation that we have maintained through competitive renewal since 1976. The James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute opened the third largest cancer hospital in the United States in 2014 to meet the needs of our community, and an outpatient care center in 2023 featuring clinic and infusion space for hematology physicians. The James provides a state of the art facility that fosters integration of research and clinical cancer care, including 308 inpatient beds and a 36 bed blood and marrow transplant (BMT) unit.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides direct and indirect patient care services in inpatient and/or outpatient settings.
- Orders procedures, diagnostic testing, and other ancillary services
- Prescribes and implements treatment plans
- Directs and participates in quality assessment and improvement activities
- Provides bedside training of residents, fellows, medical students, and other allied health professionals
Requirements
- MD or DO (or equivalent)
- Board eligible or certified in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology
- Must meet medical licensure requirements for the state of Ohio
