Since 1850, St Mary’s mission has been to provide a high-quality academic and professional environment, inspired by its distinctive ethos and Catholic mission and values and which puts the student at the centre of all our endeavours.
The School of Medicine at St Mary’s University (SMU) will develop the future leaders in medicine: those who can provide human-centred care and create lasting change in the lives of many. SMU is an established provider of health sciences, bioethics, and education, and our School of Medicine is committed to training ‘complete doctors’ equipped with the most recent medical curriculum, digital innovation, and outstanding teaching in a modern environment.
The School of Medicine will become an internationally recognised centre with established expertise and resources. At both undergraduate and postgraduate level, we are committed to offering vocationally relevant programmes of study with the highest academic standards.
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Placements & Quality Manager to join the School of Medicine. This is a key operational role responsible for managing medical student placements and quality assurance across primary, secondary, and community care settings.
Reporting to the Head of Partnerships and External Engagement, the postholder will play a central role in sourcing and onboarding placement providers, ensuring ongoing compliance with GMC Promoting Excellence standards, and overseeing feedback and reporting processes. The role includes line management of the Placements Officer and support for in-house educator training and recognition activities.
The successful candidate will have significant experience in medical or health education administration, with expertise in placement operations, regulatory frameworks, and data reporting. Strong organisational and communication skills, a collaborative approach, and an ability to work autonomously are essential. Experience in quality assurance, managing educator relationships, and working with NHS partners is highly desirable.
