Plant Operations & Maintenance Engineer 1
The Plant Operations & Maintenance Engineer 1 performs skilled level work to maintain the campus chiller plant, central steam plant, steam distribution system, and related equipment. Under the guidance of the Plant Operations & Maintenance Engineer 2, conducts chemical testing on boiler feed water, chilled and hot water systems, and treats water systems. Diagnoses, repairs, and replaces electrical and mechanical components to maintain efficiency and reduce energy consumption. Performs preventative maintenance inspections and adjustments on plant equipment to maximize life-cycle and conserve resources.
Duties include maintaining industrial natural gas boilers, hot water heaters, cooling towers, chillers, and pumping systems; repairing and overhauling equipment; submitting reports on progress; assisting in developing efficient operations strategies; performing diagnostic tests and troubleshooting; expanding knowledge through training; maintaining records; ordering materials; and adhering to safety practices.
Special conditions include working assigned shifts, possible overtime, wearing a uniform, and obtaining an EPA Refrigeration Certificate within 120 days.
Minimum qualifications: High school diploma or GED, 2 years at Maintenance Mechanic 2 level, and 2 additional years in Central Plant or Stationary Engineers field. Preferred: Customer service experience, technical training, and higher education work experience.
