Scholarship Theme: Plasma Physics and Nuclear Fusion - focusing optics
Duration: 6 months

Objectives
1. Characterisation and compression of a 1 μm laser amplifier
2. Development and characterisation of a 3 μm laser amplifier
Work Plan
1. Characterisation and compression of a 1 μm laser amplifier
Conclusion of the development of multi-mJ laser amplifier at 1030 nm based on the Chirped Pulse Amplification technique. Alignment and optimisation of the compression stage to ~6 ps.
Study of the properties of the amplified pulses, including: spatial profile; temporal profile; spectrum; and stability
2. Development and characterisation of a 3 μm laser amplifier
Assembly and alignment of a broadband laser amplifier system at 3200 nm based on the OPCPA technique, pumped by the system described in #1. Includes the development of stretching, amplification, and compression stages.
Study of the properties of the amplified pulses, including: spatial profile; temporal profile; spectrum; and stability

Contest Evaluation Method(s)
Curricular evaluation weighted to 100% on a scale of 20 points with a minimum of 10 points needed for admission.
The minimum final grade needed for admission is 10.02 points.
