Description
Under general supervision, assemble, install, repair, and maintain
pipes, pipe fittings, and fixtures according to established codes
and specifications. Perform a variety of emergency service work to
unclog sewer and storm lines, thaw frozen pipes, and repair pipe
leaks, using a variety of materials and techniques of the trade.
Performs preventive maintenance, as assigned.
Examples of Duties
Under general supervision, this position provides routine
maintenance, and performs the following duties: - 70%
Maintain, install, repair, replace, and lay out natural gas, air,
water, and sewer lines, including associated equipment and devices.
Repair and maintain circulating pumps, plumbing fixtures, and sump
pumps. Thaw pipes. Unclog lines using methods of the trade,
including mechanically and chemically. Perform minor electrical
work to install domestic hot water heaters and garbage disposals.
Work to the local disconnect. Measure, cut, bend, install, thread,
fasten, or sweat pipes of various materials using methods of the
trade. Chemically clean heat exchangers using approved methods of
the trade. Provide assistance to Plumber III as requested.
Estimate job costs, including computation of labor and material
costs for new plumbing runs and installations. Work from drawings,
schematics, or blueprints. - 25%
Other duties as assigned. - 5%
Typical Qualifications
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Successful completion of plumbing trade school preferred.
Plumbing trade school may substitute for required experience at
a one-year-for-one-year equivalency.
Experience:
Four (4) years of plumbing experience as a seasoned
tradesperson required.

Exposure to fumes and/or chemicals
Lifting (weight) - 70 lbs
Exposure to electrical current.
Work in cramped and hot spaces.
Work from ladders, scaffolds, lifts and bucket truck.
Working Hours and Days:
Monday - Friday 7:30am-4:00pm, On call
