Plumbing Technician

Job Description:

About This Opportunity

Are you a skilled Plumber ready for the next step in your career?

We’re looking for an experienced Plumbing Technician who wants more than just day-to-day service calls. This is an opportunity to combine your trade expertise with coordination responsibilities across a large and complex campus environment.

In this role, you will remain hands-on with plumbing systems, while also acting as a key on-site contact, supporting minor works, coordinating contractors, resolving technical issues, and helping ensure facilities operate efficiently.

If you have been looking to step into a role that broadens your experience beyond tools alone, while still staying true to your trade, this is the ideal transition.

Your plumbing trade is the core requirement. Exposure to broader building services or minor project coordination is advantageous, but not essential. Support and training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and coordinate plumbing maintenance, repairs, and minor works
  • Act as a key contact for stakeholders, ensuring timely and effective service delivery
  • Supervise contractors and oversee works to meet safety, quality, and budget requirements
  • Inspect and monitor building systems, logging and tracking maintenance activities
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across facilities
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and UQ safety requirements

About You

We’re seeking experienced licensed Plumbers with a strong background in maintenance across large or complex facilities.

You will bring:

  • QBCC Plumbing Licence (essential)
  • Experience in commercial or industrial maintenance
  • Current Queensland Driver’s Licence
  • Strong understanding of plumbing systems and building services
  • Solid problem-solving capability and ability to manage competing priorities
  • Good communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders

Nice to have, but not essential:

  • Exposure to broader building services environments
  • Experience coordinating minor works or contractors
  • Interest in developing project or contract management capability

You will also:

  • Be willing to participate in an after-hours on-call roster
  • Have basic computer skills for job logging and reporting

Why Join UQ Trades?

Work-Life Balance

  • 36.25-hour week with optional 9-day fortnight
  • Consistent start and finish location, no travelling between sites
  • Predictable hours with minimal disruption

Supportive Environment

  • Work alongside experienced trades and engineers
  • Strong team culture and support
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities

Benefits

  • 17% superannuation
  • 17.5% annual leave loading
  • Paid parental leave
  • On-campus parking from $6.40 per day
  • Health and wellbeing benefits
  • Salary packaging options
