Department Summary
The UCLA Police Department is a leader in providing progressive law enforcement services to a culturally diverse urban campus and its surrounding community. We are dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for teaching, research and public service. We do this through patrol, rapid response to calls for service, investigations, education and implementation of preventative strategies. Our work, grounded in a community policing philosophy, utilizes campus partnerships as the most effective approach for insuring a safe campus.
Position Summary
This posting is for applicants who have completed a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) basic police academy, or are currently or formerly employed as a deputy/police officer. If you are currently an out of state deputy/police officer, you must obtain a California POST Basic Course Waiver before your hire date.
PLEASE NOTE: THE POLICE OFFICER POSITION IS A CONTINUOUS POSTING.
Hiring Bonus: The Police Officer position is eligible for an $8,000 hiring bonus after successful completion of a background check and an accepted offer letter. Candidates who have been employed by UCLA or another UC campus during the 12 months prior to the proposed rehire date are not eligible for the hiring bonus.
Hiring Process: Individuals currently employed as a peace officer are exempt from the written and physical agility tests. Individuals who have completed a POST basic police academy but are not currently employed as a peace officer are exempt from the written test but must attend and pass the physical agility test. We administer several physical agility tests throughout this requisition. You will be notified by email of your testing and/or interview dates by someone in the Personnel and Training Unit prior to any scheduled testing dates.
Physical agility tests are currently scheduled for:
- July 26, 2026 @ 7:00 a.m.
- September 5, 2026 @ 7:00 a.m.
- October 11, 2026 @ 7:00 a.m.
- November 22, 2026 @ 7:00 a.m.
All physical agility tests are held at:

Qualifications
- Knowledge of State, Federal and University of California laws, rules and regulations as applicable to the police function. (Required)
- Thorough knowledge in the following areas: First Aid/CPR, campus streets, buildings, and parking lots, general law enforcement procedures, vehicle laws, use of firearms. (Required)
- Able to observe situations analytically, impartially, and objectively, and to record pertinent information accurately and completely. (Required)
- Carries a firearm. (Required)
- Must be a US citizen or have permanent resident alien status and achieve citizenship within three years. (Required)
- Must have no felony convictions. (Required)
- Excellent verbal and written skills and the ability to interact with a diverse community. (Required)
- Excellent ability to use computer devices and programs and other modern law enforcement technologies and tools. (Required)
- Thorough understanding of modern policing issues, philosophies, practices and trends applied within the University environment. (Required)
- Meet all other requirements for peace officers as established by law and the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, including possession of or ability to obtain a POST Basic Certificate. (Required)
