Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Requires certification as a Division of Criminal Information computer operator or the ability to achieve certification within 45 days of employment. Position may require Basic Telecommunicator Certification in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Ability to create and maintain collegial working relationships with customers and co-workers, contribute to a positive and welcoming work environment, and serve as a productive team member is expected.

Essential Job Functions
- Emergency Response Coordination: Receive and process calls related to criminal activity, traffic accidents, medical emergencies, illnesses, utility/security issues, ensuring rapid and appropriate response.
- Information Relay: Direct information to University Police officers, medical units, law enforcement partners, and on-call University personnel, guiding them to the appropriate destination.
- Technology Operations: Operate and monitor critical systems including CAD (Computer-Aided Dispatch), radio consoles, University computer programs, two-way radios, the Division of Information (DCI) console, camera surveillance systems, fire alarms, and other emergency alert systems.
- Communication Management: Handle multi-line telephone systems, ensuring clear and professional communication with all stakeholders.
- Administrative Support: Serve as receptionist during certain shifts and perform clerical duties as needed to support departmental operations on the 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. shift.
- Adaptability: Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the evolving needs of the department.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
- Ability to communicate concisely and distinctly.
- Ability to efficiently receive and transmit messages while working under pressure.
- Ability to operate a CAD system, radio console, University computer programs, two-way radios, the Division of Criminal Information (DCI) console, monitor Camera System, Fire and numerous other alarms and operate a multi-line telephone.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hold a Division of Criminal Information (DCI) Terminal Certification
- Working knowledge of Banner
- Two years of experience as a police telecommunicator
- Working knowledge of operating a two-way radio, Camera System, TDD phone, and other alarm systems
- Possess a working knowledge of the numeric codes and 10 signals
Work Schedule/Hours: Telecommunicator’s work rotating twelve hour shifts from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. (four (4) days on and four (4) days off).
Anticipated Hiring Range: $39,554-41,637
