Post-award Accountant
Job Summary
The Post-award Accountant is part of the administrative team shared by the two centers at R.M. Bock Laboratories (Center for Quantitative Cell Imaging and the Institute for Molecular Virology), within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research. Both centers have robust sponsored research programs with grants and contracts coming from both Federal and non-Federal sources. The Post-award Accountant will interact with principal investigators, their staff, the Bock Labs Grant Manager, and others on the team on financial matters related to grants and contracts, particularly forecasting, cost transfers, and award/year-end close-out. Other activities include, ensuring expenditures are in line with requirements, reimbursements, expense tracking, and auditing. This position supports principal investigators’ use of Shop@UW and other purchasing activities. As part of a team, will serve a backup to other teammates, when needed.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Provides expertise and advice related to procurement and allowable charges
- Reviews financial expenditures for accuracy on sponsored grants and contracts
- Assists principal investigators with financial management of sponsored program budgets and directs day-to-day fiscal transactions
- Prepares and processes financial reporting and/or invoicing information

Compensation
Minimum starting annual salary of $56,112; rate negotiable depending upon qualifications and experience
Required Qualifications
- Experience working with complex, automated accounting systems and processes.
- Ability to think critically and problem-solve.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, University, State, Federal, and/or Non-Federal rules and regulations related to sponsored programs (i.e. Uniform Guidance, governmental cost accounting practices and principles).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with sponsored project award management.
- Experience with creating, interpreting, and analyzing financial reports.
- Experience with Workday and RAMP
Education
Bachelor's degree preferred. Preferably in Business, Accounting, or closely related field.
