JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
One opening is available now for a postdoctoral researcher who will apply machine learning to predict clinical pain related outcomes, participate in an ongoing clinical trial, and assist with app development. The project is sponsored by a National Institutes of Health grant aimed at using machine learning to identify biopsychosocial predictors of the response to a mindfulness intervention for chronic low back pain. The postdoc researcher will be mentored closely while being granted their own freedom of pursuing new research ideas, providing that the progress on the sponsored project is satisfactory. The training of the postdoc will benefit from sophisticated methods development on multidisciplinary research topics, extensive interaction with academic and clinical researchers, and exposure to clinical trial processes and execution. In addition, the postdoc will be able to network with both academic and clinical researchers.
Responsibilities:
The specific job responsibilities include research activities and writing reports and publications. The postdoc is expected to lead research activities, including multimodal data integration and pre-processing, development and validation of predictive machine learning models, communication of the machine learning results to a multidisciplinary team of computational and clinical experts, collaboration on the interpretation of the results in the context of clinical medicine, and preparation of manuscripts for publication. They should be interested in health related research, clinical trials, and app development.
Requirements:
The requirements for the candidates include:
- A PhD in Computer Science or in a related computational field.
- Substantial training in and knowledge of machine learning techniques and strong programming skills.
- Effective communication in English, both orally and in writing, and ability to interact with multidisciplinary teams.
- The ideal candidate would have demonstrated interest in and experience applying machine learning to clinical medicine or healthcare.
- Interest in clinical trials and app development.
The existing funding is for one year with a high likelihood of continuing after the first year depending on performance.

Compensation:
