JOB SUMMARY
The postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at Saint Louis University School of Medicine will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary research team focused on investigating the epidemiology of suicide/self-harm, suicide prevention, intervention, and other pertinent mental health issues. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing research projects while also pursuing their own research agenda in line with the department's objectives.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducting research on the epidemiology of suicide/self-harm and related mental health issues.
- Contributing to the development and implementation of suicide prevention and intervention strategies.
- Collaborating with faculty and staff on research design, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
- Writing reports and academic papers for publication in relevant journals.
- Participating in grant writing and seeking funding opportunities.
- Engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration within the department and with external partners.
- Assisting in the mentorship of graduate and undergraduate students involved in research projects.
- Adhering to ethical guidelines and regulations governing research involving human subjects.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Doctoral degree in a relevant field (e.g., public health, psychology, psychiatry) with a strong background in quantitative research methods.
- Experience conducting research in the field of mental health, particularly in the areas of suicide/self-harm epidemiology and prevention.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis software such as Stata, R, or SAS.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing mental health research and addressing public health challenges.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Earned doctorate in a relevant field.
- Track record of research productivity or strong potential for producing high-quality research outputs.
- Familiarity with ethical considerations in research involving human subjects.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Expertise in epidemiological methods and study design.
- Experience with longitudinal data analysis and complex survey design.
- Knowledge of mental health interventions and evidence-based practices.
- Previous involvement in interdisciplinary research teams.
- Prior experience in grant writing and securing research funding.
