Postdoctoral Associate
Summary
The Department of Pathology & Immunology at Baylor College of Medicine, in partnership with Texas Children’s Hospital, seeks a Postdoctoral Associate. The Postdoctoral Associate will provide, in conjunction with the Medical Directors, clinical service and conduct research in the area of medical microbiology and train in areas of microbiology, virology, infectious disease serology, molecular microbiology and pathology in the clinical laboratories. The Postdoctural Associate will conduct focused research and problem solving in clinical pathology in the second year.
It is expected that this hire will complete the 2-year CPEP-accredited training program at TCH- and Baylor-affiliated hospitals and take the Medical and Public Health Microbiology board certification examination from the American Board of Medical Microbiology. The position is available from July 2024-June 2026.
Job Duties
- Plans and conducts experiments, analyzes data, and prepares publications describing results.
- Helps in training and mentoring of lab personnel, including residents and medical students.
- Maintains good communication with lab leader and members.
- Reads and evaluates literature.
- Serves as co-author on publications.
- Conducts focused research and problem solving in clinical pathology in the second year.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral degree (e.g. Dr.P.H., D.Sc., D.O., D.V.M.) with training in microbiology, molecular biology, or a related discipline.
- Experience in medical or public health microbiology.
- Scholarly record in peer-reviewed journals.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Interest in conducting applied research in clinical microbiology.
