Postdoctoral Fellow

The MIT Sloan School of Management, Department of Linguistics and Philosophy, and Social and Ethical Responsibilities of Computing (SERC) in the Schwarzman College of Computing are seeking to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow to lead AI-driven approaches for the early detection of Alzheimer’s disease. This presents an exciting opportunity to work in the areas of AI, computing, data science, and their societal applications in linguistics, and healthcare.

The appointment is for one year starting Fall 2025 (flexible start date), with the possibility of renewal for a second year. The Postdoctoral Fellow should expect to work from Cambridge, MA for the duration of the appointment. The position is eligible for MIT benefits.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will be mentored by Professors Rahul Mazumder (Sloan School of Management) and Suzanne Flynn (Linguistics) and will also collaborate with other researchers of the broader SERC, and MIT community. Additionally, the selected candidate is expected to mentor a group of undergraduate and graduate students as they broadly relate to the project and the broader vision of SERC.

About Social and Ethical Responsibilities of Computing (SERC)

The Social and Ethical Responsibilities of Computing (SERC) is facilitating the development of responsible "habits of mind and action" for those who create and deploy computing technologies and foster the creation of technologies in the public interest. Through a teaching, research and engagement framework, SERC is working to train students, encourage research to assess the broad challenges and opportunities associated with computing, and improve design, policy, implementation, and impacts. Supervision Received

The candidate will be mentored by Professors Rahul Mazumder and Suzanne Flynn. This position requires ability to perform research with minimal supervision.

Supervision Exercised

No direct reports. Candidate is expected to lead the SERC working group comprising of a few graduate and undergraduate students on themes related to computing and society.

  1. Candidates should have a PhD (expected or obtained) in statistics, computer science, data science, operations research, linguistics, neuroscience, cognitive sciences, or related disciplines.
  2. Ideal candidates should have a strong background in data science, theoretical linguistics, with proficiency in computing/data-science and interest in healthcare, biomedical sciences.
  3. Advanced training and demonstrated proficiency in quantitative methods, data analyses, related areas and experience in theoretical linguistics preferably syntax.
  4. Proven record of academic excellence, research achievements and publications.
