Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Scientist - Radiology
Department: SOM KC Radiology, Levendovszky Lab
Job Family Group: Professional Staff
Job Description Summary: Department of Radiology has an immediate opening for a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Scientist to join a strong magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) research lab focused on cerebrovascular pathology and its interaction with glymphatic biology to better understand neurobiology of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. As a member of the Cerebrovascular Imaging and Analytics (CInA) lab, the candidate will develop imaging and analysis approaches for accurate representation of brain physiology. The lab identifies best practices for imaging parameters to increase sensitivity and specificity of physiological signals. Processing and analysis are tailored per study based on acquisition, image quality, and research questions. Collaborations include neurologists, psychologists, radiologists, physicists, bioengineers, and biostatisticians. This multi-year position reports to CInA Director, Dr. Swati Rane Levendovszky (slevendovszky@kumc.edu).
Job Duties:
- Design and conduct experiments, interpret data under the mentorship of the Principal Investigator (PI).
- Work independently and collaboratively on research projects.
- Perform preprocessing and pipelining of functional and structural MRI and DTI data; prepare and analyze data for presentation; work with command-line tools for neuroimaging processing and analysis (FSL, AFNI, in-house software).
- Assist with modifying computer scripts for analysis tasks.
- Prepare manuscripts and assist in grant preparation.
- Attend and participate in IBIC meetings.
- Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook documenting all calculations, work, experiments, and research information.
- May train and guide other analysts and technicians.
Expectations: The Postdoc will complete research projects under faculty mentor guidance, record and interpret results in an electronic laboratory notebook, prepare publication-quality manuscripts, and publish in peer-reviewed literature. Read literature, develop ideas, and integrate into project design/interpretation. Disseminate studies by interacting with PI, faculty, and lab members; present at seminars and meetings; write and publish as first author.
