Postdoctoral Fellowship in Operations Management (Prof. Chen Chen)
Prof. Chen Chen, Assistant Professor of Operations and Business Analytics at NYU Shanghai, invites applications for the postdoctoral research fellow position in operations management beginning in Summer 2026 or Fall 2026.
The Fellow will work under the supervision of Prof. Chen and Prof. Jiawei Zhang, Michael Armellino Professor in Business and Professor of Information, Operations and Management Sciences at New York University's Leonard N. Stern School of Business. The Fellow is expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to research excellence and to contribute to a broad portfolio of operations management projects led by the two faculty members. These projects span a wide range of topics, with primary emphasis on—and intersections among—market and mechanism design, revenue management and resource allocation, stochastic modeling, optimization, and data-driven methods.
The Fellow’s responsibilities include the following:
- Collaborate on impactful theoretical and practical projects and publish papers in top outlets;
- Present research at academic forums;
- Collect data and conduct empirical/numerical analysis;
- Engage in the intellectual environment of NYU Shanghai through workshops, presentations, seminars, and collaboration with faculty and other researchers;
- Fulfill other duties as determined by the supervisor.
The position is for an initial appointment of one year, with the possibility of extension for another year contingent upon satisfactory performance. The position will be affiliated with NYU Shanghai and based in Shanghai, China. Opportunities for research visits and collaboration in New York will also be available. The appointment start date for non-Chinese applicants is subject to immigration regulations.
Terms of employment at NYU Shanghai are comparable to NYU New York and other U.S. institutions.
Candidates should have (or be close to completing) a Ph.D. in operations management, operations research, computer science, economics, statistics, applied mathematics, or a closed related field by the start date, and have a strong theoretical background and record of accomplishment in research on similar topics;
- Candidates should have strong research potential and evidence of scholarly excellence;
- Candidates should have received solid methodological training (theory and/or data-driven methods, as appropriate) and are able to collaborate effectively and communicate research clearly;
- Candidates must be within three years of their PhD degree conferral when their fellowship starts at NYU Shanghai.
