Position Description

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Scholar position to join Dr. Han Li’s Laboratory of Metabolic Engineering and Synthetic Biology.

The ideal applicant will have experience in one or more of the following areas:

Synthetic Biology and Protein Engineering:
Structure-guided protein engineering, directed evolution, protein purification, enzymatic assays, genetic engineering of bacteria and yeast, metabolic engineering.
Chemical Biology:
Design and implementation of organic synthesis schemes for biomimetic small molecules, studying protein-ligand interactions through mutagenesis, analytical chemistry for biotransformation products.
Machine Learning and Computational Protein Design:
Computational prediction of protein-ligand interaction modes and mutation effects, mechanistic study of protein function through simulation, implementation of AI/ML-based pipelines for automated Design-Build-Test-Learn cycles in high-throughput protein engineering and enzyme discovery.

Good organization and communication skills, and the ability to work in a team setting, are essential.
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
