Postdoctoral Research Assistant

We are delighted to offer a 28-month position for a PostDoctoral researcher to join the hyperpolarised xenon-129 and carbon-13 (13C) groups at the Oxford Centre for Clinical Magnetic Resonance Research (OCMR, University of Oxford) and Oxford University Hospitals Department of Radiology (ORRU), focused on the development and delivery of funded clinical hyperpolarised imaging studies.

You will become an embedded member of both teams, joining a senior research fellow and PhD student who engage in cross-technique research in a clinical setting. The hyperpolarised groups are strategically placed to take the next step in your career to become a world-leader in hyperpolarised imaging.

The Xenon and 13C teams share staff which enables cross-disciplinary idea sharing and sequence development, as well as to providing opportunity for advanced training across the two major hyperpolarised MRI technologies. Indeed, this is a great opportunity for an individual to grow in both technologies, and to contribute to the fields from multiple angles.

The postholder will, with assistance from a PhD student, help to run a large multi-centre clinical study focused on the detection of metabolism in the healthy brain, funded by the MRC, with travel to the Universities of Nottingham and Cambridge included. As part of this project, they will assist Dr Grist in the set-up of a world-first short course in hyperpolarised MRI, working with the Institute of Physics and Institute of Physics and Engineering in Medicine.

As part of the BRC funding, they will work with Professor Gleeson and Dr Grist in the Oxford Radiology Research Unit to deliver clinical studies using Xenon MRI to assess the potential of the technology in diagnostic and therapeutic response studies.

To apply, we would expect that you will hold a PhD in MRI, with experience in either hyperpolarised 13C or 129Xe in a clinical setting, and be a strong team player.

Interested candidates are encouraged to approach Dr Grist prior to submitting their application.

Interviews are expected to be held on 13th October 2025.

Only applications received by midday on October 9th can be considered.

The University of Oxford offers an attractive range of competitive benefits available to all staff for both work and personal life - https://hr.admin.ox.ac.uk/staff-benefits
