Postdoctoral Research Associate
About the Role
A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in Dr Alex de Mendoza’s laboratory in the Department of Biology, School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences, Queen Mary University of London.
Building on ongoing work in the group on the evolution of animal multicellularity and genome regulation (www.demendozalab.com), this project will investigate eukaryotic genome evolution using comparative and phylogenomic approaches. In particular, it will examine how epigenetic and mitotic strategies influence chromosome structure conservation and patterns of gene gain and loss. The project will leverage genome resources generated within the laboratory to uncover co-evolutionary relationships between epigenomic regulation and genome architecture.
The post is full-time, with an initial contract of 8 months, with the possibility of extension subject to funding. The main responsibilities include large scale phylogenomics, genome annotation, and preparation of manuscripts for publication. There will also be opportunities to contribute to supervision of students and to collaborate with international partners.
About You
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in Genetics, Evolution, Biochemistry, or a related field. Have experience with comparative genomics and phylogenetics. With desirable skills include experience in coding and knowledge in gene regulation.
You will hold strong communication skills and effective collaboration, with demonstrable outcomes. Self-motivation, teamwork abilities, and excellent research management skills.
Informal enquiries please contact Dr Alex de Mendoza (a.demendoza@qmul.ac.uk).
