"Postdoctoral Research Associate - Mechanical Engineering"

Alabama State University, Engineering Department, invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate. The successful candidate will lead interdisciplinary research efforts involving neuromuscular sensing, machine learning, robotic system design, and human subject experimentation, wit applications spanning assistive robotics, space exploration, rehabilitation engineering, and open-source medical technologies. This position offers opportunities for independent research leadership, mentoring, grant development, and high impact publications.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Conduct independent and collaborative research in wearable robotics, neuromechanical modeling, and human robot interaction
• Design, fabricate, and valid robotic and mechatronic systems, including soft and assistive devices
• Develop and implement machine learning and model-predictive control algorithms for human-in-the-loop systems
• Analyze large scale neuromuscular and biomechanical data sets using advanced statistical and computational methods
• Prepare and submit manuscripts to high-impact journals and conferences
• Contribute to grant writing, (e.g., NSF, NASA, DoD, NIH) including proposal development and preliminary data generations
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research design, experimentation, and technical writing
• Support dissemination activities including workshops, tutorials, and open source documentation

PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Robotics, or a closely related field, demonstrated expertise in human robot interaction, wearable robotics, or neuro-mechanics, have a strong background in controls, systems dynamics, and/or machine learning with experience conducting human subject research with physiological signals (EMG, EEG, FES, IMUs), proven publication record in peer reviewed journals and conferences, have excellent written and oral communication skills and must be able to work independently while contributing effectively to interdisciplinary teams.
