Postdoctoral Research Scientist (Dr. Millie Embree's Laboratory)
The Embree's Laboratory at Columbia University, College of Dental Medicine is recruiting a talented and motivated Postdoctorate Scientist to advance our NIH-funded program in skeletal biology, osteoarthritis, and regenerative medicine. Our group integrates mouse genetics, large-animal models, biomaterials, and sequencing approaches to uncover mechanisms of joint development and degeneration and to develop novel therapies.
Key Responsibilities
- Mouse genetics & model development: Design, generate, and characterize new transgenic and knockout mouse models to investigate stem/progenitor cell fate, cell niches, and osteoarthritis pathogenesis.
- Cell sequencing: Lead studies involving scRNA-seq, spatial transcriptomics, and multi-omics integration to define cell states in development and disease.
- Bioinformatics: Apply advanced computational tools to analyze sequencing datasets, identify molecular drivers of cell fate, and integrate data across species (mouse, rabbit, porcine, human).
- Experimental biology: Contribute to complementary in vitro and in vivo assays, including biomaterial/hydrogel fabrication, primary cell culture, biomechanical testing, and histological analyses.
- Maintain precise records (daily lab journals, animal logs) and ensure compliance with animal research standards.
- Actively engage in weekly lab meetings and one-on-one mentoring sessions with Dr. Mildred Embree.
Qualifications
- PhD (or equivalent) in genetics, bioinformatics, biomedical sciences, or related field.
- Proven expertise in mouse genetics (breeding, colony management, CRISPR/Cas9 or other engineering methods) and/or bioinformatics (R, Python, Seurat, Cell Ranger, or comparable platforms).
- Demonstrated track record with single-cell sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, or multi-omics pipelines strongly preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Qualified applicants should submit a CV along with a cover letter indicating career goals.
