Job Description

The Oliverio Lab is seeking a motivated and creative postdoctoral researcher to join our team. As a lab in the Department of Biology at Syracuse University, our research spans microbial evolution and ecology, systems biology, genomics, and bioinformatics. We use tools including omics (metagenomics, metatranscriptomics, genomics), metabolomics, enrichment culturing, and synthetic microbial experiments. We work across microbial systems including microbial eukaryotes in geothermal springs, soil protists and their functional contributions to belowground systems, and synthetic microbiomes from sourdough starters to characterize fundamental microbial processes.

This postdoctoral position is fully funded for one year, subject to renewal. Specific research goals will be developed in collaboration with the principal investigator, with opportunities for scientific independence and to pursue aligned research areas.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Biology or a related field is required by the time of appointment.
• Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, evidenced by a solid publication record and/or significant research accomplishments.
• Experience in bioinformatics and multi-omics approaches, genomics, culturing, microscopy.
• Eagerness to work in a diverse, collaborative, and interdisciplinary research environment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, detail-oriented and organized in data management, and enthusiastic about presenting research.
• Excited to explore and develop new research ideas.

Responsibilities

• Designing research projects, executing experiments, and analyzing data related to microbial ecology, evolution, and systems biology.
• Writing manuscripts, conference abstracts, and fellowship proposals.
• Mentoring graduate and undergraduate students.
• Attending conferences, workshops, and professional development opportunities.
