The Oxford Internet Institute – founded in 2001 - is a multidisciplinary research and teaching department of the University of Oxford, dedicated to the social science of the Internet.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Researcher to join Prof Ekaterina Hertog’s team at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford. This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 24 months or to the funding end date of 31 May 2028. The successful candidate will be expected to start in June 2026 and will be based at the Schwarzman Centre, Oxford - with opportunity for occasional remote working within the UK.

The Digital Lives of Care-Experienced Children project at the Oxford Internet Institute invites applications from enthusiastic and motivated candidates for a postdoctoral position working on cutting-edge research at the intersection of Digital Sociology and Public Policy.

The successful candidate will join a small but growing connected families research group led by Dr Ekaterina Hertog and Dr Victoria Nash and become a member of Nuffield Foundation Emerging Researchers Network. The Emerging Researchers Network supports early career researchers working on Nuffield-funded projects to develop successful careers and build skills in achieving impact, so their findings can influence real-world change.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting and conducting data collection across the research phases the project
  • Collaborating in the publication of research articles
  • Engaging with policy and civil society initiatives to maximise research impact
  • Assisting the group in obtaining grants from national and international funding bodies

You will hold a PhD/DPhil in Social Sciences or a related subject, have excellent communication skills, and possess a track record of original qualitative research on children or other vulnerable populations.
