"Postdoctoral Researcher / Research Administrator"

The Burt Marine Biology Laboratory in the Division of Science at New York University Abu Dhabi seeks to recruit a Postdoctoral Researcher / Research Administrator to contribute to ongoing research and operational efforts focused on coral reef ecology, climate resilience, and conservation in the Arabian Gulf.

The successful applicant will lead and support cutting-edge research investigating the implications of extreme environmental stress on marine organisms, including the physiological and ecological responses of reef species. In addition to conducting independent field and/or laboratory-based research and contributing to peer-reviewed publications, the candidate will also manage critical research administration responsibilities in the Burt Lab and affiliated centers.

This hybrid position involves coordinating permitting, procurement, and field logistics across the UAE and Gulf region, ensuring health and safety compliance (e.g., diving, boating, and laboratory procedures), and managing lab operations, inventory, and budgeting. The candidate will also assist with monthly activity tracking and grant proposal development, playing a central role in the lab’s research productivity and operational efficiency.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Biology, Physiology, Marine Biology, Ecology, or a related discipline, with demonstrated experience in designing and implementing research studies that have resulted in first-author publications. Proven ability to manage laboratory logistics and excellent communication and organizational skills are required. A diving certification and prior experience studying the influence of environmental pressures on marine organisms are advantageous.
