Postdoctoral Researcher, Structural Biology

Postdoctoral Researchers support teams of KSU faculty and students, engaging with external collaborators to study protein structure and biophysics of factors from pathogenic bacteria using NMR, crystallography, enzymology, and other methods.

Responsibilities

• Plans and executes experimental activities, data analyses, submission of reports or manuscripts, and presentation of research findings.
• Develops and contributes to new ideas for research proposals.
• Develops an Individual Development Plan in collaboration with faculty mentor.
• Generates revenue by securing grants and participates in career development programs.
• Prepares project budget and ensures compliance with guidelines.
• Maintains records and ensures compliance with policies and regulations.
• Establishes working relationships with partners.
• Engages in research and publication.

Department Specific Tasks

• Clone, express, and purify protein samples for NMR and crystallographic studies.
• Collect NMR data on labeled proteins.
• Screen proteins for crystallization and diffraction.
• Determine protein structures using X-ray diffraction and/or NMR.
• Identify protein-ligand interactions using structural and biophysical methods.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements: Ph.D. or equivalent from an accredited institution.

Preferred Qualifications

• Training in NMR or crystallography.
• Record of authoring high-impact publications.
• Experience purifying and analyzing protein samples.
• Advanced degree in a related field.
