The research group of Prof. Dr. Ina Bergheim, Molecular Nutritional Science, Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Vienna, is looking for support of research projects in the thematic field of metabolic liver diseases, immune function, and aging. We are an interdisciplinary research team working at the interfaces between nutrition and the development of metabolic diseases as well as healthy aging. We build on a good working atmosphere, close collaboration with our students, self-dependent involvement, and coordination of research projects.
You will be responsible for the conceptualization, co-coordination and co-supervision of studies focusing on the effects of nutrition and aging-related alterations of the gut-liver-axis and inflammatory processes in different model organisms (e.g. mice), but also in humans. Participation in paper writing and publication is expected. In addition, participation in teaching and examinations within the requirements of the collective agreement is expected. The successful candidate is expected to enrol on the PhD programme of the Vienna Doctoral School of Pharmaceutical, Nutritional and Sport Sciences (VDS PhaNuSpo) and to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months after being employed. The position is intended to lead to a PhD thesis, typically in form of cumulative publications.
Completed Master's degree or Diploma in the field of Nutritional Sciences or related disciplines (e.g., Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Medicine) with a Master thesis preferably with a focus on molecular mechanisms related to aging and metabolic disease. Lively interested in science. Good knowledge in (nutritional) human physiology and biochemistry. First experiences in working with model organisms such as mice or conducting human studies, as well as molecular methods such as immunohistochemistry, Western Blot, PCR, and ELISA. Ability to communicate fluently in German and English. High interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and showing a high level of motivation for research.
The employment duration is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a non-extensive declaration.
