Predoctoral Student Fellowship: CANCER EPIGENETICS INSTITUTE at FOX CHASE CANCER CENTER

Predoctoral Student Fellowship: CANCER EPIGENETICS INSTITUTE at FOX CHASE CANCER CENTER and COLLEGE of SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY at TEMPLE UNIVERSITY

We are pleased to announce opportunities to apply for Cancer Epigenetics Institute (CEI) Graduate Student Fellowships for incoming predoctoral students at Fox Chase Cancer Center and Temple University College of Science and Technology (CST). These competitive fellowships aim to recruit trainees that want to focus their training and research on epigenetics or related nuclear processes within CEI faculty laboratories (https://www.foxchase.org/research-training/research-institutes/cancer-epigenetics/members) that are affiliated with CST and are actively accepting graduate students to obtain their training. Applicants should communicate with the CEI laboratory mentor(s) in advance about joining the respected laboratory. The CEI faculty member can also provide a supplemental nomination letter for the applicant. Eligible candidates need to apply directly to one of the CST PhD graduate programs (e.g., Biology or Chemistry or Bioinformatics Program) and ultimately be accepted into the associated program. Applicants must note in the “program application personal statement” and “cover letter” that they are: i) submitting to CEI-CST opportunity; ii) applying to the CEI fellowship and the affiliated department/program; and iii) note the CEI laboratory that they intend to join for their PhD training. The personal statement in the CST application should describe the applicant’s experience, education, career goals, and scientific interest in relation to the laboratory they are aiming to join for their PhD in CEI.

The aim of this research fellowship is to recruit talented trainees from all backgrounds. US citizenship is not required to be eligible for this CEI fellowship. This research fellowship will provide two travel funds to be used on a meeting or workshop during the course of the applicant’s PhD training and a competitive stipend for the first year that will then be followed by funding from the mentor's laboratory. There will also be some financial resources available for relocation when needed.

The following application materials are required to apply for the CEI fellowship:

  1. CST Graduate School Application- Complete the TU CST Graduate School application and provide the required information by the noted due dates for the department/program to evaluate the application.

  2. CEI Fellowship Additional Materials: Send these to epigenetics@fccc.edu by 1/5/2026.

Provide a CV, Three Letters of Support from the program application, and the Cover Letter noting the application for the CEI fellowship with the noted faculty in CEI that one plans to train with or has already confirmed the opportunity to train with for their PhD. The letter should cover the career goals and scientific interest in relation to CEI and receiving such a fellowship. Declaring the CEI laboratory that one will join or those that will be rotated in to determine the PhD mentor is required. Applicants are encouraged to communicate with the CEI laboratory mentor(s) in advance. A letter(s) of nomination from the CEI laboratory of interest is encouraged but not required. Any questions, please email epigenetics@fccc.edu.

At Temple and Fox Chase Cancer Center, we recognize the importance of welcoming a wide range of voices, valuing different skillsets and backgrounds, and celebrating the collective richness of who we are. We believe that teams with varied perspectives can bring creativity and insight to address complex scientific problems and to advance progress in cancer control and cancer care for all individuals. To achieve this, we will work to ensure that our faculty, staff and trainees reflect the communities that we serve. We will uphold a climate that recognizes every individual as an essential contributor to our mission, and we will support and promote research that helps all people reach their highest possible level of health.
