This full-time faculty position is on-campus and in-person.
Principal faculty are appointed to their academic positions by the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Rank will be commensurate with education, experience, and academic record. The Physician Associate Program faculty member serves at the direction of the Program Director. They will serve in a joint role, with responsibilities spanning the academic program's didactic and clinical phases. Rank will be commensurate with the education, experience, and academic record.
GENERAL
This position is a 12-month, consecutive, non-tenured faculty appointment in the Physician Associate Program. The PA faculty consists of a highly motivated, cohesive group of experienced educators. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive primary care curriculum that prepares students to practice in a variety of clinical settings.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The faculty member must hold current NCCPA certification, a master’s degree, and be eligible for licensure in the state of Texas.
At least two years of practicing clinical experience.
The ability to work collaboratively as an inter-professional team member is essential. Excellent written and oral communication skills are expected to effectively communicate with students, staff, instructional faculty (including adjunct faculty and guest instructors), and organizational administrators. Punctuality, attention to detail, and adherence to due dates are required. Proficiency in technology for organization, word processing, electronic health records, and communication is essential.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Teaching experience.
Doctoral preparation or active pursuit. Documented scholarly activity.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
ADMINISTRATION
Serve as a Physician Associate Education Committee member to facilitate high-quality education through curriculum development and continuous self-assessment and improvement processes.
1. Developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the program mission statement, goals, and competencies.
2. Mentor, instruct, and evaluate students within areas of expertise and interest.
3. Participating in the program's admissions process and the Academic Affairs and Promotions Committee.
4. Attend faculty meetings of the Department and Division.
5. Participate in Student Class Activities.
ACADEMIC
4. Attend lectures and provide peer feedback and evaluation.
5. Provide academic counseling to students
6. Evaluate student performance
7. Assure the availability of remedial instruction
8. Serve as a faculty advisor and mentor to PA students.
9. Advise potential students on preparing their application to the program.
10. Design, implement, coordinate, and evaluate the curriculum
11. Serve as course director, classroom teaching and participate in course assignments in a setting promoting team teaching.
12. Work in concert with other faculty to develop appropriate "mini-courses'' to address the special instructional needs of the PA Program.
13. Develop and maintain student learning objectives, evaluation instruments for traditional, synchronous, and asynchronous web courses.
14. Participate in lab sessions and simulations.
15. Participate in clinical quality improvement and clinical site visits/evaluation.

17. Establish a personal program of scholarly activity.
SERVICE
l. Maintain an active role in state and national organizations supporting the program's educational mission.
2. Represent the Department and Division in intramural and extramural community activities.
CLINICAL PRACTICE
1. Provide clinical services to patients in accordance with program policy.
2. Maintain clinical credentials, including state licensure and national practice certification.
