Description

This is a non-tenure-track faculty appointment at one of four locations in Jackson and Williamson Counties. Reporting to the Center Director, the Teacher maintains a program of developmentally appropriate classroom instruction and provides a safe and nurturing environment in accordance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards, Program Policies and Procedures, and Department of Children and Family Services Licensing Standards. 

Examples of Duties

1. Plan and deliver high-quality, developmentally and culturally appropriate instruction for three to five-year-old children. This includes leading large group learning times in a manner consistent with CLASS philosophy and Developmentally Appropriate Practice.
2. Prepare, implement, and post weekly study guides in accordance with Creative Curriculum studies and curriculum fidelity guidelines.
3. Engage in classroom management strategies that keep all children both physically and emotionally safe. This includes implementing active supervision, ensuring that no child is ever left unattended. 
4. Promote parent involvement through appropriate, respectful, and timely communication with families. 
5. Complete accurate and timely developmental screenings and other outcome measures as required by the department. 
6. Schedule and complete home visits and parent-teacher conferences per requirements, discussing child outcomes, school readiness, and working to strengthen the home to school connection. 
7. Fulfill role as a mandated reporter by ensuring suspected child abuse or neglect is reported to state hotline. 
8. Ensure full implementation of child Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) by reviewing child files, attending IEP meetings, and individualizing instruction and providing accommodations as directed. 
9. Actively participates in identifying and securing in-kind contributions from families and the community and submitting accurate and timely documentation. 
10. Upon hire, the candidate will be expected to complete and track annual professional development requirements. 
11. Other duties as assigned. 

Employees of Head Start must commit to and abide by the program’s Standards of Conduct to ensure that all children are always physically and emotionally safe while in the care of Head Start. All staff must check their SIU email a minimum of once weekly, but preferably daily. All official correspondence including, but not limited to, employment contracts, payroll, required trainings, etc. will be relayed through your SIU email. Failure to check email could result in delayed payroll payments if contract/payroll deadlines are not met. 

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with documented completion of 18 hours of approved ECE related coursework..
2. Three years of full-time, paid experience working with three to five-year-old children.
