About the Department: The Hylton Performing Art Center (HPAC) will provide arts, entertainment and education to enrich the lives of residents by providing world-class venues and resources for community arts groups, businesses, civic and service groups, GMU students and faculty, and professional performances by artists from around the world, appealing to a broad audience.
About the Position: The Production Coordinator assists in the coordination between artist and rental clients and all HPAC departments. The position manages event shows as needed, acts as supervisor for events, and schedules and runs advance meetings with clients. Additionally, the role participates in the management of labor schedules.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinates event details with clients/artists/artists representatives and disseminates information to staff at Hylton Performing Arts Center;
- Leads production meetings with clients;
- Manages events and performances for Hylton Presents and other rental events, and supervises wage crew;
- Performs occasional operation of stage machinery such as lighting, audio, and rigging as needed to facilitate rehearsals and performance;
- Performs general stage duties including stage preparations and restoration of facilities and equipment;
- Assists in maintaining and updating production staff scheduling calendar;
- Inputs events in 25live and assists in necessary updates;
- Participates and attends weekly staff meetings; and
- Coordinates with Production team to assist with employee scheduling.
Required Qualifications:
- Vocational or technical training in related field;
- Experience in working with performing artists and contracts;
- Experience in stage management and managing event performances;
- Experience in and working knowledge of theatrical events and terminology;
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and be comfortable in high-pressure situations, adaptable, solutions-oriented, and a problem solver;
- Demonstrated organizational skills with proven ability to effectively prioritize workload;
- Strong interpersonal skills, including both written and oral communication;
- Acute attention to detail;
- Working knowledge of computers, including MS Office applications;
- Ability to work long hours and nontraditional shifts, including evenings and weekends due to performance schedule; and
- CPR/AED certified
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience;
- Proven experience in live event production from planning stages through post-event billing; and
- Demonstrated ability working with a diverse population of artists, students, faculty, staff, and community members.
