Professor and Director of HKU Research Hub of Population Studies

The HKU Research Hub of Population Studies, launched by the Faculty of Social Sciences, aims to provide an understanding of local, national, regional, and international demographic patterns, encompassing areas such as Ageing, Children and Family, Gender and Sexuality, Health and Mortality, Population and Development, and Urbanisation and Migration. It focuses on multi-disciplinary research concerning population-related issues and public policy.
The Department of Sociology at HKU is one of the leading sociology departments in the world, ranked 17th globally in 2025 QS World University Rankings. It offers various programmes in Sociology, Criminology, and Media and Cultural Studies.
The position requires a Ph.D. in Sociology, Demography, Criminology, Anthropology, or related fields, with a strong research track record. The appointee will lead the HKU Research Hub of Population Studies, maintain an active research program, teach courses, supervise students, and contribute to academic administration.
