Professor of Practice in Nutrition

The Department of Health Science kindly invites applicants for a Professor of Practice, assistant level, in Health Science to begin in August 2026. The position does not require a scholarship in the field, and there is a possibility of promotion. The new faculty member will join a department in the May School of Arts & Sciences of three full-time faculty members with unique disciplinary expertise and a commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion among faculty and students. The new faculty member will serve the health science and exercise science undergraduate majors under the Health Science Department, one of the largest at Stonehill College. The majors primarily serve students interested in careers as allied healthcare professionals, such as, but not limited to, public health scientists, physician assistants, nurses, physical therapists, and exercise physiologists. We seek enthusiastic applicants who are also committed to excellence in teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduates, and who will foster diversity, inclusion, equity, and justice in education and science.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Potential candidates must be able to teach nutrition and community nutrition, as well as one or two of the following courses: lifecycle nutrition, nutrition for sport performance, or the Department’s Capstone course. Please note you do not have to teach all of the listed courses. Primary teaching responsibilities include Nutrition, Community Nutrition, and a rotating mid-level and upper-level specialty course in the candidate’s area of expertise. The new faculty member will have a four-course load in each fall and spring semester. Lab courses at Stonehill count as full courses. Additionally, the position requires academic advising for Department of Health Science students and service to the department and the college, for example, engagement at events for prospective students and their families, and rotating committee work.

Education & Experience

Candidates must be a registered dietitian (RD or RDN) and/or hold a doctorate in nutrition or a health-related field or biological science, or an appropriate terminal degree. Work experience in the healthcare industry is not required, but beneficial. Previous experience mentoring undergraduate science students is strongly preferred (i.e., advisor, mentor, teaching assistant, etc.). Previous undergraduate teaching experience is strongly preferred but is not mandatory (i.e., professor, teaching assistant, preceptor, instructor, etc.). In the case of previous teaching and/or mentoring experience, candidates should explain their approach to ensuring equitable instruction and how they create a sense of belonging in the classroom or laboratory for marginalized individuals or groups. For candidates without previous undergraduate teaching and/or mentoring experience, candidates should explain how they will uphold the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice within course instruction, advising, and as members of the institution at large. We welcome proposals for an upper-level specialty course, potentially to be offered in the Department by the candidate. The in-development, short course description can be added as an addendum to the candidate’s personal statement (see Special Instructions to Applicants).

Applications are accepted through the Stonehill Jobs website only. Interested applicants should submit online: 1) a letter of application, 2) a personal statement which addresses teaching philosophy broadly and in consideration of underrepresented populations, with evidence of effectiveness in mentoring or teaching undergraduate science students, and 3) a curriculum vitae. Two recommendation letters are required, in which the applicant’s teaching/mentoring effectiveness should be strongly highlighted. Three recommendation letters may be submitted, but no preference is given to candidates who submit more than the two required letters. Letters are submitted online by each reference person on behalf of the applicant. Applications should be submitted by November 15, 2025. For questions, please email Dr. Katharine Harris at kharris1@stonehill.edu. Apply here.

Applicants who will enrich the diversity of the campus community are strongly encouraged to apply. Stonehill College is an equal opportunity employer committed to diversity.
