Program Manager 1 - African-American Studies - (494560)
Manages the day-to-day operations of a small or medium-sized university program or department. May supervise staff employees, student workers, programs or processes.
1. Plans and develops procedures for administering a small or medium-sized department or program.
2. Oversees program expenditures and ensures adherence to budget.
3. Provides guidance to subordinate staff and evaluates performance.
4. May prepare or participate in the creation of abstracts, research reports, funding proposals, operations and procedure manuals, and other written material and documentation.
5. Reviews reports of budgets and activities.
6. Prepares ad hoc reports as needed.
7. May administer grants and grant-related communications, scholarships and other operations.
8. Develops, implements and maintains appropriate policies and procedures.
9. May serve as property custodian for the department.
10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
The program manager will be responsible for supporting African American Studies faculty and staff in coordinating on-campus and off-campus programs for the department and center, supporting and coordinating activities for recruiting students, maintaining a database of vendors and event locations, managing outreach event expenses in accordance with the approved budget and university policies, assisting in developing recruitment materials for use in print, on the website, and through social media, assisting in developing funding proposals to support departmental and center programs, assist with writing final reports for programs, assist with dissemination of scholarships, possibly supervising student workers.
The successful candidate must have strong written and oral communication and organization skills. Experience in higher education administration is an asset, though not required.
In addition to the duties described above, this position will assist in the coordination and logistics of various department events.
MQ: Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Experience: No experience required.
