Programme Leader Track
The MRC LMS, under the Directorship of Professor Wiebke Arlt, comprises around 35 research groups carrying out mechanistic research addressing major questions of relevance to human health and disease. We are focussing on mechanisms underpinning metabolism, genetic and epigenetic regulation and cell fate decisions and are particularly interested in the impact of sex differences, life course-associated changes and the exposome on these processes. The LMS is committed to a transdisciplinary team science approach and our research progress is accelerated by state-of-the-art core facilities.
We would like to recruit new PLTs who carry out ambitious research in an area of relevance to Human Metabolic Disease. We are open to how your research aligns with the priorities of the LMS. However, we are particularly interested to hear from scientists with a research focus in Metabolic Physiology using murine and/or human in vivo models and scientists driving advances in Immunometabolism to understand the mechanisms underlying the development and progression of human metabolic disease and how this adversely affects healthy aging.
Programme Leader Track appointments are on an open-ended contract, which comprises a six-year advanced career development scheme after which you will be considered for promotion to Programme Leader. PLT funding covers your salary, that of two postdoctoral fellows, consumable and equipment funding and access to the core-funded LMS scientific core facilities and PhD programmes.
During your Programme Leader Track appointment, you will be required to develop your programme of research, including establishing internal and external collaborations, securing external grant income and supervising students.
You will also be required to contribute to the Institute’s strategy and research, which will entail delivering training and innovation missions, participating in outreach activities, as well as supporting Equality, Diversity and Inclusive and research culture initiatives.
The LMS and MRC are committed to advancing equality, diversity, and inclusion and welcomes applications from talented people of all backgrounds. As "Disability Confident" employers, we guarantee to interview all applicants with disabilities who meet the minimum criteria for the vacancy.
As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer defined benefit pension scheme and excellent holiday entitlement (30 days plus 2.5 privilege days & 8 bank holidays), family friendly policies (6 months full pay maternity & adoption leave), a range of shopping/travel discounts, access to our Employee Assistant Programme Scheme, Health and Wellbeing Support and a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme.
