Description
The University of Montana invites applications for a Project and Innovations Manager for the Rocky Mountain Research Evaluation and Commercialization Hub (RMT-REACH) program in the L.S. Skaggs Institute for Health Innovation (SIHI).
RMT-REACH, an NIH-funded program, provides academic biomedical innovators in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming with funding, external resources and expertise, and entrepreneurship training to drive early-stage technology development projects toward commercialization. The Project & Innovations Manager will work collaboratively with RMT-REACH Principal Investigators to provide day-to-day program administration and coordinate the application cycle for RMT-REACH Pilot Awards. The Project & Innovations Manager will serve as the main contact between RMT-REACH Principal Investigators, subaward projects funded by the RMT-REACH Pilot Awards, fiscal management, and the resources provided by RMT-REACH. This position will act as project management lead for NIH-funded teams for the duration of the grant period.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the recruitment, submission, and evaluation of applications to the RMT-REACH Pilot Awards
- Assist RMT-REACH Principal Investigators with application review, refinement of funded project plans and budgets, and funded project contracting and onboarding
- Lead monthly check in calls with NIH-funded teams, acting as project manager for monitoring project plans, budgets, and assessing needs for additional resources and ensuring work performed aligns with approved project plans
- Collaborate with the SIHI/RMT-REACH Project & Fiscal Coordinator to review invoices submitted by funded teams for reimbursement and monitoring grant budgets throughout the grant period to ensure alignment with approved project plans
- Coordinate educational opportunities and providing application support for RMT-REACH applicants and awarded teams, including bringing in subject matter experts and other coaches as necessary
- Build relationships with and advising NIH-funded technology development teams on early-stage technology development, business formation, SBIR/STTR and other funding and partnership opportunities
- Collaborate with NIH-funded teams to develop, implement, and refine strategies for product development and commercialization
- Work with and through RMT-REACH programs to conduct problem-solution validation and related assessments (market analysis, competitor analysis, etc.) for funded technology development projects
- Form relationships with external partners to provide support to funded technology development teams and projects
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree and five (5) or more years of relevant experience
- Relevant experience in program or project management with demonstrated success supporting biomedical/biotechnology research or product development initiatives
- Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to oversee and guide complex, challenging tasks, while often having to prioritize multiple projects
- Experience with fiscal management of grants including budget monitoring, invoicing, and working with funding administrators
- Excellent communication skills, demonstrated project management skills, ability to lead meetings, ability to problem solve
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with a wide-ranging group of individuals and organizations
- Other qualified candidates will be considered with demonstrated experience in biomedical entrepreneurship and/or experience working for a medtech/pharmaceutical company, technology transfer office, or supporting a research organization
Preferred Qualifications
- A Master's degree in business, pharmaceutical sciences, other biomedical sciences, or an equivalent degree from an accredited university
- Experience in communications, particularly in communicating scientific information to a broad audience
- Excellent computer literacy and knowledge of word-processing programs, spreadsheets, visual communications, and project management software
- Understanding and knowledge of best practices in interacting with an academic institution is, as is knowledge of university policies and procedures
