The mission of the University of San Diego Facilities Management Department is to efficiently operate, maintain, and support the development of quality facilities, grounds, and services, while supporting the campus community, students, faculty, and staff.

Detailed Description: Performs skilled level work in the coordination and development of construction projects, including programming, design, university approval, construction, and move-in. Prepares and/or coordinates design packages for building interior renovations and minor new construction. Manages project contracts during the course of construction and maintains an accurate cost accounting of all construction/renovation projects. Provides construction project estimates and project schedules for all assigned projects. As directed by the Director, Planning, Design & Construction, supervises the maintenance of all campus architectural documents and the facilities inventory.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Pre-Construction/Design: Interviews university personnel and ascertains user renovation/new construction needs. Translates user needs into acceptable construction documents in accordance with current building code and ADA regulations. Verifies and documents existing site conditions prior to beginning design. Prepares and/or coordinates drawings and specifications for all assigned renovation and construction projects. Strives to create sustainable designs, targeting LEED Gold criteria when possible. Prepares detailed cost estimates for early budget and funding needs.
  • Construction Management: Is responsible for the management of interior renovation projects and minor new construction projects in terms of budget, schedule, and quality of workmanship. Issues contracts and purchase orders to contractors and/or vendors. Insures that all construction is completed in accordance with current building, electrical, and mechanical codes, as well as with the approved design. Coordinates with the City of San Diego on all permit related issues. Maintains project budgets. Estimates cost of changes requested by the user. Coordinates project approval with appropriate University personnel. Coordinates project construction/completion/move-in with appropriate University departments.
  • Office Management: Assists in maintaining the archived drawings and specifications. Keeps the Senior Project Manager appraised of project(s) conditions.
  • Safety: Consistently follows safety practices appropriate to the trade and complies with rules and regulations established by the university, state of California, and federal agencies.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, preferably in architecture, construction management, engineering or a related field. Three (3) years of experience managing commercial or institutional construction projects. Must possess a valid California Driver's License. Must be able to communicate effectively, have thorough knowledge of construction materials and methods, current Uniform Building, Fire, and Mechanical Codes, as well as the National Electric Code and ADA regulations. Must demonstrate advanced ability with software such as Microsoft Project, Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam Studio, and Document Storage sites.

Preferred Qualifications: Five (5) years of experience in drafting of construction documents in a commercial or institutional setting.

Posting Salary: $6,751.58 - $7,878.75 per month; Excellent Benefits. The University of San Diego offers a very competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, a retirement contribution, and access to on-campus Fitness Centers.
