A Project Scientist position is available for motivated individuals within Dr. David Eisenberg's laboratory at UCLA's Department of Biological Chemistry. We apply methods of structural, molecular, and cell biology to discover small molecules that disassemble pathological fibrils associated with the onset of neurodegenerative conditions including Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and ALS. Methods include x-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, and cellular and animal assays.
Job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Running and evaluating in vitro, cellular, and structural assays of the efficacy and toxicity of small molecule disassemblers, and the products of disassembly.
- Databasing and evaluation of small molecule candidates.
- Updating TPPs and DPPs.
- Writing reports and grant applications.
- Interfacing with funding organizations including SPARK NS and ASAP.
- Experience in x-ray crystallography and electron microscopy.
- Experience in cell biology and cell-based assays, including biosensor cell assays.
