POSITION IDENTIFICATION
Title: Provost and Vice President for Instructional Services / Dean of Faculty

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Provost and Vice President for Instructional Services is responsible for the leadership, quality, and integrity of all instructional and student support programs. Serving concurrently as Dean of Faculty, the Provost represents faculty interests to the President and Board of Trustees and provides strategic leadership for academic policy, curriculum, faculty affairs, student affairs and support services, and instructional resources.
As a member of the Executive Team, the Provost participates in university leadership and strategic planning and advises the President on matters related to academic planning, instructional priorities, accreditation, assessment, faculty personnel actions, and budgetary support for academic and student affairs programs. The Provost provides executive oversight of Academic and Student Affairs and related support units and plays a key role in advancing the University's mission through high-quality teaching and learning experiences and outcomes across all instructional modalities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Earned doctorate preferred
- Master's degree from an accredited institution required
Experience
- College-level teaching experience required
- Significant successful senior administrative or management experience in higher education required
Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated leadership and sound decision-making ability
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively and collegially within a complex university environment, including off-campus instructional sites
- Proven effectiveness in organizing, managing, and evaluating academic administrators, faculty, and professional staff
- Ability to represent the University positively and professionally to internal and external constituencies
Other Requirements
- Demonstrated commitment to meeting the instructional and academic support needs of a broad range of students, including first-generation and adult learners
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Must be able to travel between Vincennes University locations
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Academic Leadership and Curriculum Oversight
- Provide executive leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality instruction across all instructional modalities, including classroom, online, hybrid, internship, and experiential learning environments
- Ensure academic curricula align with the University's mission, are responsive to institutional and workforce needs, and avoid unnecessary duplication, including oversight of the University's program review process
- Review and determine approvals for all substantive curricular proposals advanced through the faculty governance process, including new programs, program revisions, and individual course offerings
Faculty Affairs and Academic Administration
- Serve as Dean of Faculty and provide leadership for faculty recruitment, appointment, reappointment, promotion, tenure, and professional development
- Recommend faculty appointments, promotions, tenure, and reappointments to the President in accordance with approved policies and procedures
- Provide oversight and support for faculty development initiatives, sabbaticals, and professional development leaves
- Supervise University Deans and academic administrators and provide indirect supervision of faculty through the academic leadership structure
Accreditation, Assessment, and Academic Quality
- Provide executive oversight for institutional and programmatic accreditation processes, including preparation, reporting, and continuous improvement efforts
- Ensure systematic assessment of academic programs and student learning outcomes to support institutional effectiveness and academic quality
- Facilitate compliance with internal and external academic review requirements
Instructional Resources and Academic Infrastructure
- Oversee instructional support units, including Center to Advance Faculty Excellence, Learning Resources Center, instructional equipment and laboratories, and a broad range of student support services, to ensure adequate support for teaching and learning
- Provide leadership in the planning and use of instructional technologies and learning environments that support effective and innovative instruction
Fiscal and Resource Management
- Assume executive responsibility for budgeting and resource allocation within Academic Affairs and related instructional units
- Coordinate the development of annual academic budgets and retain final authority over departmental budget allocations within assigned areas
- Review and approve academic unit plans, goals, objectives, and budget proposals to ensure alignment with institutional priorities
Governance, Executive Leadership, and External Relations
- Serve as a member of the Executive Team and advise the President, Vice Presidents, and Board of Trustees on academic and student matters
- Serve as an ex officio member of the University Senate of the Faculty and other University-level committees, including but not limited to the Curriculum and Academic Affairs Committee, Faculty Affairs Committee, Continuous Quality Improvement Committee, Council on People, Access, and Community, IT Executive Committee, and Strategic Advancement Committee
- Attend meetings of the Board of Trustees and Board committees, as requested
- Represent the University in community, state, regional, and national activities related to higher education, including those of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education
- Serve as Acting President during the President's absence, consistent with institutional policy and Board authorization
Additional Responsibilities
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by the President or Board of Trustees
SUPERVISION
The Provost reports directly to the University President. The Provost provides direct supervision of senior academic and student affairs administrators and University Deans, and indirect supervision of faculty through the academic leadership structure. The Provost also provides executive oversight of support units and related operations.
