Psychology Technician
This post is part-time, 17.5 hours per week and fixed term for 12 months. The salary stated above is the pro-rata amount, the full-time salary would be £32,185 – £35,066 per annum (Incl. LWA).
The School of Social Sciences, based at our Cavendish Campus, delivers teaching and research across psychology, criminology, sociology and politics. Within the School, our technical services team plays a vital role in supporting staff and students in both teaching and research.
We are looking for a Psychology Technician to strengthen our support for teaching, research and enterprise activities in Psychology, with emphasis on Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience, working closely with the Psychology Technicians team, academic colleagues and students to ensure high-quality technical provision across our laboratories and specialist facilities.
You will provide high-quality technical support for psychology teaching, research and enterprise activities. This includes maintaining and developing specialist laboratories, ensuring the safe and effective use of equipment, and supporting staff and students with experimental design, data collection and analysis.
Your expertise will include specialist technologies such as EEG, TMS, eye-tracking, psychophysiology systems (e.g. BIOPAC), as well as experimental platforms such as Gorilla, SPSS and Jamovi. You will also deliver inductions, training and demonstrations to ensure safe and effective use of psychology resources.
You will hold a degree in Psychology or a closely related discipline (eligible for Graduate Basis for Registration with the BPS). You will bring experience of supporting psychology laboratories in higher education or research, with strong knowledge of cognitive and clinical neuroscience methods.
Excellent IT, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential, along with a flexible and user-focused approach. Experience with programming/scripting for experimental design, AV/observation systems or qualitative tools (e.g. Nvivo) would be an advantage.
