Quality Improvement Consultant- Critical Care

Position Summary

Provides consultation, education and professional support for Hospital‑wide and departmental quality improvement programs, projects and initiatives. Educates and advises on methods, tools and techniques for monitoring and assessing quality of care and compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements. Provides support for implementation and evaluation of hospital and unit/department based quality improvement programs and serves as project manager for designated programs/projects. Designs and administers customer surveys and analyzes, interprets and presents results.

Key responsibilities

  • Plans and conducts educational programs for hospital staff. Identifies learning needs of target audience(s) and develops and prepares course curriculum and related instructional materials.
  • Provides consultation for medical staff, management and hospital departments. Advises on tools, methods and criteria for monitoring care delivery processes and outcomes and evaluating effectiveness of changes. Informs departments of current regulatory and accreditation standards and provides assistance in achieving and assessing compliance.
  • Participates in and provides support for hospital and unit/department based committees, programs and special projects. Advises on and assists in data collection, measurement and analysis and facilitates group processes and decision making.
  • Serves as project manager for designated hospital quality improvement projects, programs and initiatives. Monitors and communicates project status, identifies and resolves problems/issues and provides leadership for project teams/work groups in order to meet established goals, specifications and schedules. Plans and oversees provision of related training and conducts project evaluation and follow up. Selects, trains and supervises work of temporary support personnel as needed.
  • Analyzes and interprets data and prepares and presents recommendations to improve quality of care. Designs programs and maintains databases to support and/produce various reporting and requests for ad hoc analysis.
  • Responds to requests for data from insurers and other external organizations. Participates in committees within the health care industry and in the community in order to collect and exchange information.
  • Maintains knowledge of current professional and industry trends and practices through participation in relevant professional/industry organizations and attendance at conferences and other continuing education programs.

Minimum qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Healthcare Management or a closely related field required. Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Two years of data management experience in a clinical setting is required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience in data management may substitute.
  • Analytical skills to resolve complex problems requiring the use of scientific, mathematical, or technical principles and in depth, experienced based knowledge.
  • Communication skills in order to persuade and negotiate with others on important matters.

Schedule: Monday- Friday, Hybrid

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting. Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
