REGISTERED NURSE- Apheresis Procedure Unit (APU)- University Hospital
This position requires independence and clinical leadership as part of a multi-disciplinary team working with nursing units and referring services throughout the health system. Patient care, clinical consultation, triaging procedures, coordination with other units, quality assurance, supporting research, and teaching are all key components of this position. The patient care components of this position primarily include performing research, donor, and therapeutic apheresis procedures. We provide services to a diverse population that includes adult and pediatric patients. Our patient population ranges from ambulatory outpatients to patients in intensive care units. Apheresis nurses act as resources to patients, family members, and health system staff on a wide range of procedure related, patient care, and nursing practice issues. The primary role of the apheresis nurse is to perform donor and therapeutic apheresis procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- Current license to practice nursing in the state of Michigan.
- At least 2 years of recent nursing experience.
- This position requires bending, stooping, pushing carts and equipment between buildings, and standing for prolonged periods of time.
- This position requires fine motor skills to assemble tubing and equipment.
- Ability to use multiple computer systems for training, appointment scheduling, clinical documentation, and other tasks.
- Ability to function independently.
- Ability to work as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Apheresis experience.
- Experience with hemodialysis or other extracorporeal therapy.
- Experience in a setting requiring close patient monitoring and rapid intervention.
- BSN preferred
Salary & Nursing Framework Level:
This UMPNC RN posting is posted as Nursing Framework LEVEL C.
Actual Nursing Framework LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.
Nursing Framework levels range from Level A to Level F.
Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position.
Posting may be filled after the initial 5-day posting period.
Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment including months and years of service along with effort.
Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.
Schedule: 32 hours (8 shifts every 2 weeks); 8 hour day shifts (07:30 – 16:00); Monday – Friday schedule.
This position requires participation in a rotating on-call system for coverage of off-hours apheresis procedures (including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays).
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
