Reporting to Professor Alexis Hill, the Research Assistant will order reagents, collect and analyze data, and assist in the mentoring of undergraduate students.
Job Description
The Hill Lab at Barnard College seeks a full-time Research Assistant for an NSF-funded project using Drosophila melanogaster to study the contribution of glial ion channels and transporters to neuronal homeostasis and behavior. The position provides an excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate to continue developing scientific research and communication skills. Techniques routinely used in the lab include genetics, immunohistochemistry, imaging and behavior. The Research Assistant will work independently on a research project, which is expected to lead to authorship in peer-reviewed publications, and will also assist in training undergraduate students, maintaining fly stocks and ordering reagents.

Skills, Qualifications & Requirements
- This position requires a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. A major in Neuroscience, Biology, or a related field is preferred.
- Prior research experience, especially with Drosophila, and/or confocal microscopy is a plus.
- Candidate should possess good interpersonal, organizational and communication skills, and a high motivation to learn.
Annual Stipend
$50,000
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the College's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
