Research Assistant Professor
Position Summary/Description:
The UNC Institute for Trauma Recovery (ITR), housed within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, seeks a Research Assistant Professor (Non Tenure Track Faculty) with advanced training in statistics, biostatistics, or quantitative data science. This faculty member will play a central role in advancing ITR's mission to understand and prevent post traumatic neuropsychiatric sequelae through rigorous analysis of complex, high dimensional clinical research data.
The ITR conducts large scale, emergency care-based observational studies and clinical trials focused on outcomes such as posttraumatic stress disorder, depression, pain, and related somatic symptoms following traumatic stress exposure. The successful candidate will serve as a core statistical investigator across multiple externally funded projects, including large longitudinal cohort studies and interventional trials, working closely with multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, scientists, and data management staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as a co-investigator providing statistical expertise for federally funded observational studies and clinical trials.
- Develop and execute statistical analysis plans for complex longitudinal, multi site datasets.
- Apply advanced analytic methods (e.g., multilevel modeling, latent variable approaches, machine learning methods) to clinical, biological, and patient reported data.
- Collaborate with investigators to interpret findings, prepare manuscripts, and disseminate results through peer reviewed publications and scientific presentations.
- Contribute substantively to grant development, including analytic design and methods sections.
- Mentor trainees, junior investigators, and research staff in quantitative methods and reproducible research practices.
