"Research Assistant Professor in Data Science for Social Impact"

Apply data science techniques and approaches to support the Gateway Initiative addressing complex problems to improve the lives of families, individuals, and communities in Gateway communities in the Boston region. Engage with key stakeholders including non-profits, government agencies, and advocacy groups, to design, implement, and evaluate data-driven solutions that address pressing social, health, educational, and economic problems. Duties include:

1. Support Gateway Initiative to respond to data analytics demands from Gateway community partners;
2. Use statistical, machine learning, and natural language processing techniques to develop models and algorithms to make predictions and recommendations;
3. Collaborate with the Gateway Initiative team, faculty from Computer Science, Environmental Science, and Social Work, community stakeholders, and others to identify social, health, educational, and economic problems that can be addressed through data analysis and data science approaches;
4. Collaborate with Data Visualization Lab to integrate data visualizations with results from data analytics to communicate findings to non-technical audiences in Gateway communities;
5. Collate, clean, and analyze large and complex datasets from various sources to derive new insights;
6. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of data-driven interventions;
7. Continuously learn and apply new techniques and technologies to improve the quality and impact of data-driven solutions; and
8. Offer undergraduate and graduate courses and training to students on the application of data science tools and approaches to understanding and intervening in complex problems confronting our communities.
