Research Associate (Biffi Group) (Fixed Term)

Research Associate (Biffi Group) (Fixed Term)

Join us at the world-leading CRUK Cambridge Institute. We're a unique department of the University of Cambridge, core funded by Cancer Research UK's charitable activities, and we're eagerly searching for our new post-doctoral Research Associate to join the Biffi Group.

We're seeking an experienced and motivated scientist, with a background in cancer research, and strong skills in cell biology and mouse work to join a team working on studying and targeting metastasis and the tumour microenvironment of pancreatic cancer.

The team combines ex vivo murine pancreatic tumour organoid/fibroblast co-cultures with murine in vivo models and patient samples to study and target the interactions between pancreatic cancer cells and the surrounding microenvironment.

The prospective candidate will lead a developing project in the lab to identify and target drivers of metastasis in pancreatic cancer. It is expected that, as a post-doctoral member of the group, the successful candidate will have a significant input over the direction of their project, and will contribute with their ideas.

Techniques that will be used for this project will include generation of orthotopic transplantation models of pancreatic cancer, flow cytometry, spatial transcriptomics and proteomics, single-cell, single-nuclei and bulk RNA-sequencing, drug and CRISPR strategies in mouse models and organoids of pancreatic cancer, and analysis of human pancreatic tissues.

The candidate must hold or be about to receive a PhD in a relevant discipline. They should have a strong background in molecular biology, cell biology, tissue culture techniques, mouse work and models of cancer. Prior knowledge/expertise in pancreatic cancer and/or metastasis biology is highly desirable. Expertise in data analysis (e.g. analysis of bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics) is also highly desirable.

Candidates are expected to work effectively as part of a diverse and inclusive team, to be engaging and engaged, highly collaborative, good communicators and creative thinkers, able to find solutions to problems and contribute intellectually and experimentally to other projects beyond their own.

For up-to-date information about the group, please see our websites:

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check and a security check.
