The Department of Clinical Studies - New Bolton Center is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join our team investigating clinical approaches to problems in surgery, especially as relates to the eye, ear, nose, and throat, in large animals. The successful candidate will take a central role in performing surgical procedures in collaboration with current veterinary faculty and staff, and in designing investigations into methods for preventing and treating complications from these procedures. This position involves both clinical and experimental work as well as close collaboration with other members of the Section of Surgery at New Bolton Center. The successful candidate is expected to generate, analyze, and disseminate high-quality data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform clinical work in collaboration with other members of the Section of Surgery at New Bolton Center, including after-hours emergency work as needed.
  • Design and implement research in the area of otolaryngology as related to large animal veterinary medicine.
  • Contribute to manuscripts, presentations, grant submissions, and reports.
  • Mentor and train veterinary students and house officers in surgical technique, experimental design, and analytical methods.
  • Present findings at meetings from the local to national levels.
  • Ensure compliance with biosafety and institutional regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • VMD/DVM degree (or equivalent)
  • Board-certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgery
  • Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Cellular and Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience with large animal veterinary medicine, including management of both clinical and research animals.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cell culture, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and other standard laboratory techniques.
  • Familiarity with R or other statistical analysis platforms.
  • Prior contributions to peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience assisting with grant writing or scientific reporting.
