Research Associate
Job Summary
The Research Associate assists with acquisitions, registration, deidentification, storage, tracking and distribution of samples according to Standard Operating Procedures, and supports biorepository-related clinical trials.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Acquire, register, deidentify, store, track and redistribute biospecimens (blood, tumors and other tissues and their derivative products) to faculty investigators who conduct IRB approved Cancer Research.
- Manage cryogenic equipment, including daily monitoring and documentation, and Institute systematic maintenance protocols to ensure proper function and longevity of cryogenics
- Annotate clinical samples appropriately by acting as honest broker and supplying relevant clinical information from the EMR in a deidentified format as appropriate
- Interact, train and assist external BRAG-One member sites with consent, procurement and shipment of samples to Augusta University.
- Support and assist with maintenance of biosafety, chemical safety, and IRB guidelines and protocols to ensure compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of Biorepository holdings with periodic analysis of inventory. Support the collection of clinical information and its entry into appropriate databases. Maintain patient confidentiality and act as the honest broker for the Biorepository IRB.
- Maintain and clean laboratory equipment and identify and schedule needed repairs. Ensure that supplies, glassware and plasticware are cleaned out and autoclaved per lab protocol. Prepare and maintain stock regiments for common lab user per lab protocol.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research.
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years research and/or clinical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Experience
Previous experience managing or coordinating a research or clinical laboratory, in particular a service-oriented laboratory. Solid scientific background in human biology with practical experience in a related field, such as histology.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational, prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases or willingness to learn.
- Ability to work independently and as a team member; interact with all levels of staff collegiately.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Pay Band: B8
Salary Range: $45,400/annually - $47,500/annually
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
