Research Coordinator, Education Policy Initiative
The University of Michigan is looking for a Research Coordinator to become an active member of the Education Policy Initiative (EPI) and the Michigan Education Data Center (MEDC). EPI, located at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy, brings together nationally recognized scholars focused on generating and disseminating policy-relevant education research. We work in partnership with schools, districts, and state agencies to conduct rigorous, cutting-edge research that informs both policy and practice. We maintain large-scale administrative datasets from multiple government agencies while also maintaining strong research partnerships within specific research areas, such as early childhood.
In partnership with Michigan's Department of Education (MDE), Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI), and Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP), the Education Policy Initiative (EPI) runs the Michigan Education Data Center (MEDC). MEDC is responsible for reviewing all research requests for state education data, distributing approved records, and ensuring quality in related publications. As Research Coordinator, you will support EPI's Associate Director and Senior Project Manager by overseeing the review process and tracking research proposals submitted to the Michigan Education Data Center (MEDC).
- Screen new research applications, process project amendments, and maintain thorough study documentation and tracking
- Facilitate pre-publication reviews, track publications using MEDC data, and develop performance metrics for the work
- Oversee the workflow management system and ensure all studies adhere to required project closeout activities
- Continuously evaluate processes to identify efficiencies and propose improvements based on user feedback and experience
- Develop and lead strategic communications initiatives for MEDC in collaboration with EPI's Associate Director and Administrative Specialist, such as finalizing a communications toolkit and training researchers to use it
- Create templates for policy briefs, working papers, and executive summaries, and promote relevant research through social media and other relevant channels
- Establish and manage a publication repository, ensure MEDC webpages are updated, and share departmental updates as needed with state partners
- Communicate reviewer feedback and other essential information effectively to research teams
- A master's degree in a relevant social science field, data science, statistics, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 2+ years project coordination, research, or related experience
- Demonstrated experience in developing and managing strategic communications, including creating outreach materials and coordinating with diverse stakeholder groups
