Research Engineer
About the Opportunity: This is a 1-year fixed term position with the possibility of renewal based on continuing external funding. The Institute for NanoSystems Innovation (NanoSI) at Northeastern University is actively seeking a Research Engineer to develop, document and perform semiconductor process modules and run full process flows. The individual will work in the clean room and will play a critical role in the process development for various thin-film deposition and etching systems. As part of a NanoSI team, the candidate will be responsible for creating, using, and maintaining new etch and deposition processes.
This Position Will Perform the Following:
- Plan and conduct short-loop experiments to develop new etch and deposition process modules
- Work together with NanoSI graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to develop and implement process flows to integrate piezoelectric materials on commercial CMOS wafers
- Document process capabilities and work with NanoSI researchers and industry collaborators to publish results
- Design, execute, and analyze experiments to improve process capability, quality, and efficiency
- Train students and researchers
Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. or M.S. in engineering, physics or related discipline is required, plus at least 4 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in fabrication of semiconductor devices, MEMS and/or CMOS devices is required.
- Knowledge and experience in at least one of the following process areas are required: plasma etching, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), plasma-enhanced CVD, physical vapor deposition (PVD)
- Knowledge of metrology tools such as SEM, AFM, profilometers and ellipsometers are required.
- Experience defining and implementing statistical process control is desired.
- Working knowledge of statistical analysis and design of experiments is desired.

Expected Hiring Range: $75,210.00 - $106,230.00
