The University of Tennessee invites applications from all qualified individuals for a full-time tenure-track or non-tenure-track Assistant/Associate or Full Professor position as a primary researcher in the Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM).

The successful candidate is expected to devote approximately 85% of their efforts towards developing an independent research program sustainable by external funding preferably from federal sources. Engagement in collaborative interdisciplinary research efforts is strongly encouraged. Please visit https://vetmed.tennessee.edu/research/ to learn more about research at UTCVM. The candidate is also expected to mentor graduate students in the Comparative and Experimental Medicine (CEM) graduate program and to contribute to didactic teaching in the CEM curriculum. Opportunities to teach and mentor students enrolled in the DVM program are also available. Preference will be given to the candidates that have a proven record of external grant funding.

Significant startup funds and a state-of-the-art research infrastructure are available. The department is home to diagnostic laboratories in bacteriology, endocrinology, parasitology, pathology (anatomic and clinical), virology/immunology, and pharmacology (https://vetmed.tennessee.edu/vmc/dls), providing services to the College’s Veterinary Medical Center and referring veterinarians across the country. Faculty enjoy full access to the University's core research and service facilities in advanced microscopy and ultrastructural imaging, genomics Core, and biological and small molecule mass spectrometry, among others (https://research.utk.edu/oried/core-facilities/) as well as the UTIA Genomics Center (https://utiagenomics.tennessee.edu/). Advanced computing and modeling expertise are available through the University, NIMBioS, and in conjunction with Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

Qualifications

Qualified applicants must have: (1) a PhD (or equivalent degree); (2) a record of peer-reviewed scientific publications and securing significant research funding; (3) strong verbal and written communication skills; and (4) ability to work in a team-oriented environment. Teaching and service allocations will be dependent on the candidate's qualifications and interests.
